Ihe FMA designation program can enhance your career by making you a more effective, knowledgeable facilities professional, thus positioning you as a key strategic professional within your organization. This program teaches you to manage facilities in a way that best supports staff and fits into the organization’s overall objectives. You’ll develop valuable skills in strategic planning, project management, corporate finance, capital investment, and physical asset management. You’ll also learn about new facilities technologies, environmental health and worker safety, and other timely issues. Whether you’re a novice or an experienced facilities manager, or someone in a related profession who could benefit from knowing how to create a quality work environment that maximizes productivity, the FMA program is right for you.
To earn the FMA designation, you must complete these seven mandatory courses plus the one-day Ethics Is Good Business® ShortCourse™ (As of July 1, 1997):
- The Design, Operation, and Maintenance of Building Systems, Part I
- The Design, Operation, and Maintenance of Building Systems, Part II
- Fundamentals of Facilities Management
- Technologies for Facilities Management
- Facilities Planning and Project Management
- Real Estate Investment and Finance
- Environmental Health and Safety Issues or Environmental Health and Safety Issues Canadian Version
Code of Ethics
In addition to requiring Ethics Is Good Business®, the Institute requires that all designees abide by a Code of Professional Ethics and Conduct.
Continuing Professional Development
To maintain active status of the FMA designation, 18 points of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit must be earned every three years. For a free brochure detailing the CPD requirements, email BOMA - Long Island at info@bomali.org.
College Credit Recommendation
Courses in the FMA curriculum are designed to cover the equivalent of 30 classroom hours. ACE/College Credit Recommendation Service reviews BOMI Institute's U.S. courses and recommends most for college credit.
